Successor to a long line of World War II Navy Grumman-built "cats", the F-14 is a swing-wing, two-seat, carrier-based multirole fighter. Envisioned by the Navy as a replacement for the F-4 Phantom, the F-14 became operational in 1974. This hot fighter, featured in the film "Top Gun", has Mach 2.3 (1,545 MPH) capability. Here Stokes shows a pair of sleek "Tomcats" initiating a carrier break turn, prior to recovery.
