Lucky to have landed on the Allied side of the lines, this American pilot receives a little something to settle his nerves from his British and Canadian hosts. This Sopwith Camel, operated by the American 148th Squadron, could have suffered from ground fire, a "dud" engine, combat damage, or any of a number of problems common with operating over the front lines. While a medic checks the pilot's injuries the "Tommies" take a welcome break from another day in the trenches of the Western Front in 1918.
