This scene depicts Corsairs of VMF-112 in combat near Guadalcanal in 1943. On May 21, Captain Archie Donahue became an 'ace in a day' by shooting down 5 enemy aircraft in one mission. He would repeat this feat 2 years later while serving aboard the USS Bunker Hill. We have been honored to have this great Marine Ace participate in signing this special edition!

Artist's Proof Edition

Joining artist Robert Taylor, each print has been personally signed by USMC Ace James E. Swett. Col. Swett won the Medal of Honor for destroying seven Japanese aircraft in one air combat action, on 7 April, 1943, while serving with VMF-221 on Guadalcanal. He later transitioned from the F4F to the F4U Corsair and served a highly successful tour on the USS Bunker Hill in 1945, adding 10.5 more confirmed aerial victories to his score.
