High in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California, three Lockheed F-80
Shooting Stars skim the Rim Highway just above the coastal cloud layer,
surprising a young father and his excited son in front of their stalled DeSoto
automobile. The early morning scene takes place a few years after World War II;
the freshly-painted fighter jets belong to the new United States Air Force.
