In a scene reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting, children play baseball in
a placid residential street in the city of Orange, California in the last months
of World War II. As a ghostly black Northrop P-61 "Black Widow" night fighter on
a test flight appears overhead, some of the children, still unaware of it are
focused on the "fly" ball, while the others are transfixed by the presence of
the "spider".
